- I have recently discovered fairly surprising thing about SpeedStar Plus
- card and driver support in OS2. I had my SpeedStar Plus card (version of
- bios 4.23) exchanged by Diamond Computers for SpeedStar Plus (version
- of bios 6.01, different physical layout of the card). Before I was happily
- running SP dirvers for 1024x768 seamless without any problems. After I
- received my new card, I have discovered that SVGA.EXE is not able to correctly
- read its registers. In fullscreen DOS session SVGA.EXE runs, reads registers
- but doesn't get it right in any resolution (I have tried 800x600 and
- 1024x768). In real DOS booted (without OS2) SVGA.EXE is supposed to work
- too, but there I got the message saying that I have unsupported chip.
-
- This can probably explain part of the confusion about SpeedStar Plus cards
- with people reporting success and failure under very similar circumstances.
- But this also leads to the following idea: Would somebody with OS2 2.1 latest
- beta (on CDROM) be so kind posting SVGA.EXE (I have tried SVGA.EXE from GA and
- SP and both fail) to hobbes ? I am pretty sure that drivers will work without
- change (because I had it actually working with old SVGADATA.PMI after I got the
- new card and started to mess with SVGA.EXE). If this problem is present also
- in latest beta, I would like to report it to IBM. I have no space on the
- drive to try beta myself so I am not going to buy it.
-
- So my question is: can someone post latest SVGA.EXE from 2.1 beta for
- the benefit of SpeeStar Plus users ?
