- No. All you need to load CD-ROM software (like the Walnut Creek
- library) is included with your GA+SP package. Install the SCSI
- driver, install the CDROM.IFS, and away you go. The CD-ROM will look
- like a 500MB, read-only floppy disk.
-
- To use the audio portion, you need a CD-ROM player that supports
- audio. Most do, these days. You'll also need MMPM/2. Since this is
- being included in OS/2 2.1, this will soon cease to be a problem. You
- may need a special driver, but I expect them to be available by the
- time that OS/2 2.1 ships in its final form.
-
- As for a SoundBlaster or other sound card, you won't need one unless
- you have multi-media software that uses synthesized or digitized
- audio. It is optional, but well worth it.
-
- You might be able to kill two birds with one stone by getting the
- SoundBlaster Pro. This card is a sound card, and it comes with its
- own proprietary CD-ROM interface. I think drivers for it are
- beginning to become available, so ask around if you're considering
- this. Note that only two or three CD-ROM players will work with the
- SB-Pro card, since it is not a SCSI interface.
