- |Well I own an accutrack and have the pm software. First the software
- |is a bit buggy, and tends to crash the system. But I have had no
- |problems once I start a backup or a restore and I haven't had any
- |tapes corrupted. But they defintly need to do more testing. Also
- |when you install it, DO NOT LET IT MODIFY YOUR CONFIG.SYS IT WILL
- |DESTROY IT!!!!
-
- Hmmm. It didn't destroy mine, but if it messed yours up, I wouldn't
- trust it for a new install.
-
- |As for the tapes themselves. I can backup my 210 drive in around 1/2
- |hour. The tape software itself, when it works, is quite powerful. It
- |has a library function so it keeps tracks of whats on your tapes so
- |if you want to find something you don't have to start searching
- |tapes. I also believe it has a time function but for the life of me
- |I can't remember and I'm at school so I can't check it out.
- |
- |All in all the hardware is fine, its fast and reliable and not all
- |that expensive. Their compression algorithm is fairly good averaging
- |between 1.5:1 and 2:1. (I got around 1.8:1 when I backed up my drive
- |and 99% of my material is executable code) And I don't think their
- |PM software will give you any long term problems but you should be
- |aware that it is buggy.
-
- My experience with the HW is quite similar to yours. I only had one
- software problem. For some reason, my copy of EZTAPE.INI got
- corrupted on installation. When it was deleted, the software
- reconstructed it correctly and I havn't had any problem since.
-
- Now I am about to do a major reconstruction of my system that will
- require repartitioning and reformating both hard drives and then
- reinstalling all software (most non system stuff from tape). If I
- have problems, I'll post them.
