  22.     The Cyrix chips _are_ 486 chips.  They have ALL of the 486 
  23.     instructions (bswap, etc).

  25.     The differences between the 486SX and the 486SLC/DLC are:
  26.     
  27.     1.  The 486 has an 8k cache, the Cyrix chips have a _1_k cache.
  28.         (not a 2k cache)
  29.     2.  The 486 uses the 486 pinout, the Cyrix chips are drop in
  30.     replacements for 386DX (DLC) and 386SX (SLC) chips.
  31.     3.  the 486 has a built in FPU.  The Cyrix chips implement the
  32.     FPU externally, in the FastMath coprocessor.

  34.     Obviously, none of the above differences have anything to do with
  35.     compatibility with a 486SX or DX (if you add the coprocessor).  they
  36.     will result in performance differences, nothing more.

  38.     If these are not "486 class processors" it is strictly a matter
  39.     of performance, NOT compatibility.
