- The problem doesn't seem to be just with Windows drivers. I ran into
- this exact problem with some of the fonts you mentioned and various
- others. I tried to use Atech's Alltype conversion utility to convert
- the offending fonts to type-1 PostScript, but it died with a general
- protection fault on every one!
-
- I believe that this is related to the fact that TrueType fonts take a
- lot more space to store than do type-1 PostScript fonts. I suspect
- that, at large font sizes, the rendering of these complex characters is
- requiring too much memory. The Windows drivers at least handle this
- gracefully, and generate an empty box. The Alltype converter just
- blows up.
-
- I called Atech's technical support and was told that they know of
- certain problems with fonts created by Corel Draw. I informed them
- that, no, these fonts could be identified as generated by Altsys
- Fontagrapher, which, as far as I know, generates PostScript format, and
- that the fonts has undoubtedly been converted from that form to
- TrueType. The support droid simply repeated the line about Corel Draw,
- at which point I said, "Well, I guess the program isn't going to be of
- much use to me," and hung up (and gave up, too).
-
- I think I'll post this in comp.fonts, and see if anyone there can come
- up with a working version of these fonts, or of the others that gave me
- trouble:
