- Something to consider is whether the fonts themselves are properly built,
- rather than assuming that the font engine in Windows is faulty.
-
- Who built the fonts which are giving you problems? Are they commercial
- products constructed according to the official Apple specifications, or
- are they el cheapo knockoffs done in someone's basement? (And note that
- there are numerous supposedly commercial fonts which do not meet the
- standard specifications.)
-
- Numerous TrueType fonts have become available since Windows 3.1 was
- announced, but many of them -- especially those which have been
- translated from some other scalable format like PostScript through
- a converter program -- can cause various flavors of grief because
- of bad formatting.
-
- TrueType fonts are actually executable computer programs, much more than
- is the case with PostScript. Especially if hinting is involved it is not
- at all unlikely that the glyph-generating program for some of your
- characters goes bonkers when a complex figure is scaled to certain sizes.
-
- (Of course, it's also not impossible that the TrueType engine in the
- printer driver is failing to properly emulate a TrueType processor.
- Do you have the most recent versions of the printer drivers, including
- UNIDRV?)
-
- I have a feeling that I've seen this type of complaint posted some time
- ago, but don't recall if there was any solution offered. Does anyone
- else recall the details?
