- I discovered a very annoying bug with Windows' 3.1 TrueTypeFonts
- (TTF's) and I can't imagine being the first one:
- When using complex TTF's (especially the three ornamented fonts
- "CarrickCaps", "KonanurKaps" and "Starburst"; others too), the chars
- display well at the screen, but get printed out as empty, rectangular
- boxes!
- Sometimes, it's just the other way round: the chars are "boxed" or
- completely invisible at the screen, but print out alright!
- This effect depends on the font size: with (say) 8 points, display
- _and_ printout are both fine, at about 14 point, printout becomes
- garbage (some (less complex) chars are okay, some others of the same
- font print out as boxes. In fact, increasing the char size even
- further (about 60 point), the chars get "boxed" at the screen, too!
- Note that this problem is *not* bound to a specific program or
- printer: I tested it out with WinWord 2.0 as well as with Write; with
- a HPLaserjet and a NEC-P7-printer; on a 486 with 8MB and a 386/4MB!
- The most critical combination is TTF "Starburst" and WinWord: its
- impossible to print correctly with char sizes of more than 8 (!)
- point!
-
- I suspect that by default, Windows doesn't set aside enough RAM for
- the font-handling; does anybody know how to fix that?
-
- Many thanks in advance,
- Kai
-
- P.S.: *PLEASE* answer by email --if I receive a solution, I'll summarize!
