- Help!! Bizarre System Error!!
- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
-
- Interim Report (Not Solution Summary)
- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
-
- I haven't found the answer to this problem yet, in spite of the
- excellent help I have been getting from you netters. I didn't want anyone
- to think I was ungrateful, so many sincere thanks from the heart of my
- bottom to everyone who took the time out to reply to my post ; and
- here's a summary of the stuff I've tried so far.
-
- 1). Remove "lastdrive=" statement from the config.sys.
-
- If I do this the PC won't attach to the network. Maybe this
- would work for Novell, but for PC-NFS it's a no-no.
-
-
- 2). Set "lastdrive=" to the letter that is before the drives the
- network need to work.
-
- Again, the PC fails to mount the network.
-
-
- 3). Remove any "subst" drives.
-
- None are set up.
-
-
- 4). Load the network drivers ahead of windows.
-
- I do.
-
-
- 5). Do you run Win 3.1 rather than 3.0 ?
-
- Yes.
-
-
- 6). Is file manager or an application trying to read the j: drive
- on Windows launch?
-
- No.
-
-
- 7). Set up Win31 for PC-NFS : special TSRs & tell Windows
- 'there is no network'.
-
- I am using the standard setup for windows & PC-NFS which
- works on 100's of PCs on campus every day. {But not this
- one *sob* :( } It does include theose TSRs & Windows is set
- up for 'no network'.
-
- Thats most of it. Finally, I have reinstalled Windows, and reinstalled the
- network connection software, and no joy. I even tried running the network
- version of windows, rather than this guy's local version, and that
- displayed the same symptoms. The network version is definately set up OK,
- so I am beginning to believe the problem is not with Windows.
-
- I think I'll check out the PC-NFS newsgroups, and see if anyone there
- can suggest anything else.
-
- A big thanks once again to all who replied. As a guy posted to me the
- other day: "What a pleasure to work in a community where people
- help each other, like here on the Internet."
