- ->: ->Dear Netters,
- ->: ->does anybody know how to get a sign like

- ->: -> (please excuse my weak mathematical english)
- ->: ->where the "group" of real numbers would be an R with a double
- ->: ->stroke on the left hand side, something looking like IR.
- ->: ->The equation editor offers the "element" sign, even the vertically

- ->: What you have to do here is, use the real (R) symbol from the symbol
- ->: font set. First go to eqn. editor and type x, then inser the element
- ->: symbol from palette. Now switch to prog. man. and run the utility
- ->: character map. supplied by Win3.1. From the font list choose 'Symbol'
- ->: font set and then choose the Real (R) symbol by double clicking on
- ->: it, then click on copy. At this point you go back to the eqn. editor
- ->: by pressing alt+tab. From the edit menu choose 'paste'.
- ->Seems you have a different symbol font (or you don't know what the
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- ->scientific symbol for the set of real/complex numbers looks like).
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ !Whew!!
- ->We need some font that includes such (and other missing) symbols.
- ->If anyone knows where to get (ftp) one, please let us know.
- ->
- ->
- ->: This way one can use many more symbols available in the 'symbol' and
- ->: wingding font sets (or from any other) that are not given in the
- ->: eqn. editor palette.
- ->Simply pressing <alt><number> (while in the equation-editor),
- ->where number is the character's position in the specific font (you get get it
- ->using the character map application) and formatting it accordingly seems to
- ->be a quicker way (at least for people who do not want grab their mouse every
- ->time they need to insert a character :).

- Before passing a comment I suggest you try it out first. If you
- are a fan of using alt+number then try alt+0194 and make sure
- you choose the 'Symbol' font to get a 'Re' symbol. Next time
- try first before making a comment (I can't stop my friend from
- laughing). Rgards,
-
- -Anis.
