- 'Morning (at least here and now);
- This is a corrective posting for a msg I orginally incorrectly
- sent to comp.os.ms-windows.announce. Apologies to anyone who has
- seen it there.
-
- I'm looking for folks who have experience they would be
- willing to share on installing and operating Lotus Development
- Corporation's NOTES groupware product and/or Lotus Notes
- Document Imaging (LN:DI).
-
- My office is initiating a Notes installations, essentially
- beginning from the ground up. We have the Windows capable PCs in
- place (mostly 486/33s, 8mgb RAM, 230mgb HD, EISA, some 486/25s), but
- will be putting in everything else, from network interface cards in
- the PCs, through cabling to servers, backup devices, etc.
-
- First question: Is there a more appropriate newsgroup for this
- discussion? Notes is a Windows app (at least on the client), but
- there may be a more specialized forum that fits better. My
- feed does not carry all the available newsgroups, but one
- can be added upon request.
-
- Second question: Notes can be run over LanManager, Vines and
- Netware. Since Notes will be the primary application on our LAN, we
- want to use the network operating system (NOS) most suited to Notes.
- Without trying to start the NOS wars (which can come to resemble the
- Crusades), is one of these three better suited to the task? The LAN
- will be a closed (no dial-ins), relatively stable environment,
- running in a single building. There are several workgroups
- involved, with significant traffic internal to each and a much lower
- volume of critical traffic between them. Traffic is primarily text,
- but images will be mixed in. Ethernet/802.3 over fiber.
-
- Thanks in advance. Please respond via e-mail.
