- Recent Macs use HD drives (for 1.44Mb disks), for the last 3 or 4 years -
- they run at a constant speed, with extra electronics changing the data rate
- to provide compatibility with old 400k & 800k disks. These Macs can read &
- write 720k & 1.44Mb DOS disks, using some transfer software provided. A
- couple of commercial PC programs are available that will read HD Mac disks
- in a 1.44Mb (presumably also the rare 2.88Mb) drives on PCs.
