- I am looking for CD-ROM drivers. We have a SCSI CD-ROM driver that
- originally came w/ a UNIX system, so does not have DOS drivers. From
- what I understand SCSI is *supposed* to make generic device drivers
- possible, since you should no longer need to know specific I/O port
- numbers or other device-controller-specific stuff to make a driver.
-
- I realize that some CD-ROM drivers are built to work with their
- controller cards, and those would require a device-specific driver.
-
- If it matters, we are using Adaptec 1542-b SCSI cards (I think, it's
- the 1500 series at least).
-
- 1) Does a generic SCSI CD-ROM driver exist, and where can I get it?
- 2) If one does NOT exist, why not?
- 3) Bonus points: is there a generic SCSI-tape backup program &/or
- SCSI-tape device driver available? It would be really nice if
- a driver made a tape look like a WORM drive and we could just
- use xbackup or something....
