- In the AMI BIOS SETUP PROGRAM - ADVANCED CHIPSET SETUP, please explain what
- these configurable parameters are supposed to do on my 486DX/33MHz system:
-
- CURRENT
- PARAMETER OPTIONS SETTING
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- DMA Address/Data Hold Time 1-2T, 2-3T 1-2T
-
- AT BUS Clock Select CPUCLK/2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 CPUCLK/4
-
- I/O Recovery Time Delay 2, 4, 8, 12BCLK 4BCLK
-
- Cache Read Hit Burst 2-1-1-1, 3-1-1-1, 3-2-2-2
- 3-2-2-2
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- I have figured out most of the other CMOS settings, but these are still
- somewhat elusive to me. I believe that AT BUS Clock Select affects the
- speed of the AT BUS by dividing the master clock frequency by the selected
- parameter, eg, a 33MHz system would have a BUS speed of 11MHz with an AT
- BUS Clock Select setting of CPUCLK/3. Is it adviseable to increase the
- AT BUS speed beyond the standard 8MHz? Any advice, anecdotes and other
- pertinent information would be greatly appreciated.
-
- As a final query, is it adviseable to enable memory remapping if my system
- has more than 1Mb of RAM? I have 4Mb. My crappy manual says "no", but does
- not explain why. I have enabled it and acquired an additional 256kb of
- extended memory. I assume that the other 128kb (384k-256k=128k) is in use
- as shadow ROM which is enabled also. I have experienced intermittent/random
- crashes at times and I am wondering if these are related to memory mapping?
-
- Thanks...Francis
