- Finally, after about 2 years of having less memory than most XT users
- (624K, because Tandy wanted to be innovative), I'm upgrading to a 386.
- It's a Packard Bell 386sx 16 Mhz with 2 Megs of RAM and an 85 Meg HD.
-
- I booted the system up last night with the Universal Boot disk and
- Minix reported that there was ~760K total memory. Ok...I give.
- Where's the rest of it? Yes, this is better than what I was squeezing
- into before, but...
-
- And is there IDE controller code out there somewhere? I remember the
- nightmares I had when I didn't know any better and tried to run Minix
- on my Tandy 1000's RLL drive with the XT boot disk. It was/is one of
- those first Western Digital controllers that acts like an MFM, but
- isn't.
-
- And I'd really like to get into protected mode.
- Any help would be appreciated.
