  16. Yes, I may have been wrong. Sorry.
  17. But I have found some Programms in there where the patches are larger than
  18. the sources (e.g. commands/ic).

  20. Nevertheless I have tried to get 1.6.24b up and running. And I failed.
  21. The first problem was building the library. Tsort is still buggy.
  22. (Well not exactly: I could compile a working tsort using gcc and linux :-> )
  23. Then I managed to build a new kernel, mm, fs and init.
  24. I was not able to get the new tools (forgot the names, substitutes for
  25. build and menu) running. They compiled w/o a warning, but didn't work.

  27. It seems to me, that the filesystem format has changed a bit, but I could
  28. find no documentation on it.

  30. All in all, this is such a story of frustration that i have decided to:

  32.  - Stay with 1.5.10 since this patching needs too much time even using
  33.    a 12 MHz-286. (Where are these masochists still using XTs? :->> )

  35.  - Use the available patches for 1.5.10: shared text, virtual consoles,
  36.    shutdown/reboot, nice .... 
  37.    This will result in a nice, stable and usable system.

  39.  - 1.5.10 is POSIX enough for me. For special cases I will use Linux.
  40.    Linux has a almost complete C-library, almost everything compiles fine.
  41.    1.5.10 uses the same filesystem format as Linux, so they are pretty
  42.    compatible this way (except symlinks, but that won't matter).

  44.  - I won't ever sell my copy of Minix, since I will never find a
  45.    fool that will even pay half the price I paid. :->

  50.      are decreasing, considering all the "mama, please unsubscribe meeeee!"
