- Since people have been clamouring for tcsh-6.03, I've decided not to
- delay any longer. Tcsh-6.03 was supposed compile out of the box, but
- sadly this is not the case. There is a problem with POSIX job control,
- either in tcsh or in Linux. Christos Zoulas (the author of tcsh)
- thinks it is in Linux. I have a patch that appears to fix the problem,
- but kludgy as it is, I've been loath to release it. But here it is,
- now.
-
- I have uploaded tcsh-6.03 (binary & diffs) to sunsite.unc.edu,
- tsx-11.mit.edu and nic.funet.fi. Please contact me, if you find any
- problems, or if you can shed some light on the job control problem.

- --- HERE IS THE README -----------------------------------------------
-
- This is tcsh-6.03 for linux. Unfortunately, tcsh-6.03 does not compile
- out of the box on Linux, contrary to expectations. I know! I promised,
- but... :-) There is a problem with pipes. I have included a patch that
- fixes the problem, but it is just a kludge. There is a synchronization
- problem with the new POSIX job control code. I don't know, if this is
- caused by a bug in tcsh or a bug in Linux. Please, let me know, if you
- find out.
-
- The included binary was compiled with GCC 2.3.3 (with my patch
- applied, of course) and requires libc.so.4.2 to run. Just copy tcsh
- to /bin and tcsh.1 to /usr/man/man1 and you're all set.
-
- Locale support is still not included. Linux libc.a only has a dud
- implementation. Hopefully we'll get a real one some day. Meanwhile,
- the builtin ISO8859-1 support should satisfy most people.
-
- If you feel the need to compile tcsh-6.03 by yourself, you can get the
- source from tesla.ee.cornell.edu:/pub/tcsh/tcsh-6.03.tar.Z.
-
- Have fun!
