  15. Since people have been clamouring for tcsh-6.03, I've decided not to
  16. delay any longer. Tcsh-6.03 was supposed compile out of the box, but
  17. sadly this is not the case. There is a problem with POSIX job control,
  18. either in tcsh or in Linux. Christos Zoulas (the author of tcsh)
  19. thinks it is in Linux. I have a patch that appears to fix the problem,
  20. but kludgy as it is, I've been loath to release it. But here it is,
  21. now.

  23. I have uploaded tcsh-6.03 (binary & diffs) to sunsite.unc.edu,
  24. tsx-11.mit.edu and nic.funet.fi. Please contact me, if you find any
  25. problems, or if you can shed some light on the job control problem.

  30. This is tcsh-6.03 for linux. Unfortunately, tcsh-6.03 does not compile
  31. out of the box on Linux, contrary to expectations. I know! I promised,
  32. but... :-) There is a problem with pipes. I have included a patch that
  33. fixes the problem, but it is just a kludge. There is a synchronization 
  34. problem with the new POSIX job control code. I don't know, if this is
  35. caused by a bug in tcsh or a bug in Linux. Please, let me know, if you
  36. find out.

  38. The included binary was compiled with GCC 2.3.3 (with my patch
  39. applied, of course) and requires libc.so.4.2 to run. Just copy tcsh
  40. to /bin and tcsh.1 to /usr/man/man1 and you're all set.

  42. Locale support is still not included. Linux libc.a only has a dud
  43. implementation. Hopefully we'll get a real one some day. Meanwhile,
  44. the builtin ISO8859-1 support should satisfy most people.

  47. source from tesla.ee.cornell.edu:/pub/tcsh/tcsh-6.03.tar.Z.
