- I've installed linux on my pc, but everytime I boot (using a
- boot disk) I can't make use of the boot drive (a 5 1/4" HD drive). I've
- tried to install lilo, but the only way I can presently get it to my PCs
- is using floppies, and when I copy them from a mounted diskette they
- will not untar, although text files still more just fine.
- I was also wondering how to get the m* (mcd, etc.) commands to
- work with my DOS partition on my hard drive, every time I try to mcd c:
- it gives me an error stating it can't find it, although I can boot just
- fine into DOS, and I can mount the partition and see all the files just
- fine. I've also been getting an error at boot of :
- mount: /dev/hda1 already mounted or / busy
- but it seems to mount the hard drive quite well, so I was wondering
- where it would be 'retrying' to mount the hard drive? I was curious as
- to how the root device (rdev returns it I believe) is set, is that done
- during installation?
- In looking through the configuration files I was also curious as
- to what a couple of the environment variables did in gettytabs (I
- couldn't find anything on them in the man pages) like: hushlogin_file,
- EVN_HZ, TTYPERM, umask, and ulimit. Also, is there any way to set
- quotas or limits on online time, and what are the exports, mtab and mtools
- files for?
- While I'm pestering the net with questions I was wondering if
- the user creation programs were supposed to create the users directory
- as well, and if so how?
- Finally, (yes you're about to get rid of me now) is there any
- thorough documentation other then what came with it on general linux use
- and the X windows setup process (the stuff with figuring out clock and
- scan rates, etc)
-
- Thanks in advance for any replies,
-
