- Well, I received 2 responses from people who had run Linux on the new Cyrix
- 486DLC chip, and a couple of "me too" requests, so I'm posting this summary.
-
- Now I need to find a decent price for a 486DLC motherboard.. :)
-
- Summary follows:

- I've run Linux on a 33 MHz Cyrix 486DLC (Linux 0.99 pl0) with 128K cache, 4
- megs RAM, ISA bus, Cyrix 33 MHz 387, etc. It seems to run just fine. No
- bugs or gotchas so far. We got the motherboard from Artek in California; I
- don't know if they sell to individuals or just dealers.
-
- If you have any questions, feel free to reply; I'll tell you what I can. I
- haven't tried to run X on it, but it's stable under a pretty heavy load
- (building the kernel on one VC while compiling, etc. on another) and floating
- point operations work OK, too.

-
- I have Linux running on my Cyrix 486DLC; I used the SLS package, and ran
- into no significant problems. It's been running for about three weeks
- now, without a single crash :). Unfortunately, I have only
- 4 Mb ram, so I can't use X.
-
- Performance-wise, the 486DLC is on par with a 486-25DX, so I would
- recommend the Cyrix over the options you list in your article. I paid
- about $480 for the motherboard, the cpu, the fpu (Cyrix 387+) and 4Mb,
- at one of these stadium computer sales.
-
- I heard recently that the Cyrix bombs under NeXTStep 486, but I could
- care less about that. I have had no problems whatsoever. Let me know if
- there's more you want to know.
