- Some telnet/ftp daemons perform an RFC 931 reverse lookup to
- find out who is connecting to them. If the remote machine
- (the Linux box, here) doesn't run an RFC 931 server, the daemon
- will time out before giving up. This can give the appearance of
- a hang up. Worse, certain other problems are also seen with RFC 931
- sometimes (although usually associated with packet filtering) and
- these can cause real hang ups.
- This may not be the problem here, but it might be worth considering.
