- Following my posting last week, several people pointed me to the binary olvwm
- distribution olvwmbin_GCC2.2.2.tar.Z (or something similar) which I downloaded,
- and attempted to build as told by the README.linux file. However, ld barfed
- and gave me:
-
- ld: nonexternal relocation code invalid in olvwm.a
-
- I'm not a Unix/C programmer so could somebody please explain what's going on?
-
- Secondly I also tried to download the binaries of Interviews doc 3.1. I found
- that tar refused to unpack the decompressed IVdoc3.1.tar file, after creating
- the interviews directory tree it created a ~700k doc file and then said:
-
- tar: Skipping to next file header...
- tar: only read 10153 bytes from archive IVdoc3.1.tar
-
- and gave up. The same line (tar xvfh IVdoc3.1.tar) worked perfectly on the Sun
- at work. What am I doing wrong? Or have I unwittingly discovered a bug in
- tar?
-
- Configuration:
-
- SLS .98p5, kernel 0.99pl2 with soundcard driver compiled in.
- 486/33, 64k cache, 8Mb RAM, 93Mb Linux partition (Extended FS).
-
- Thanks for any and all help.

- Tim.
