  12. Following my posting last week, several people pointed me to the binary olvwm
  13. distribution olvwmbin_GCC2.2.2.tar.Z (or something similar) which I downloaded,
  14. and attempted to build as told by the README.linux file.  However, ld barfed
  15. and gave me:

  17. ld: nonexternal relocation code invalid in olvwm.a
  18.  
  19. I'm not a Unix/C programmer so could somebody please explain what's going on?

  21. Secondly I also tried to download the binaries of Interviews doc 3.1.  I found
  22. that tar refused to unpack the decompressed IVdoc3.1.tar file, after creating
  23. the interviews directory tree it created a ~700k doc file and then said:

  25. tar: Skipping to next file header...
  26. tar: only read 10153 bytes from archive IVdoc3.1.tar
  27.  
  28. and gave up.  The same line (tar xvfh IVdoc3.1.tar) worked perfectly on the Sun
  29. at work.  What am I doing wrong?  Or have I unwittingly discovered a bug in
  30. tar?

  34. SLS .98p5, kernel 0.99pl2 with soundcard driver compiled in.
  35. 486/33, 64k cache, 8Mb RAM, 93Mb Linux partition (Extended FS).
