  12. I have been installing the newest SLS distribution on my Samsung
  13. Notemaster 386SX/25e.  So far, it has been laughably easy -- I
  14. recompiled the kernel to eliminate a numlock problem, and have
  15. everything configured exactly as I would like it.

  17. Then, unfortunately, I tried installing the SLS X series.  I cannot
  18. find out what kind of VGA card this computer has simply by reading the
  19. manual, but here is what I do know:

  21. - Video RAM from 0A0000 to 0BFFFF.
  22. - max. 640x480 display
  23. - backlit LCD
  24. - up to 64 levels of gray

  26. I linked X386mono to X, and Xconfig.mono to Xconfig.  X Windows
  27. starts, complains about not finding a certain signal, then fills my
  28. screen with vertical bars and completely hangs the system -- even
  29. [Cntrl]-[Alt]-[Del], [Cntrl]-[Alt]-[BS] etc. do nothing, and the
  30. update daemon doesn't spin the drive.  As a result, I cannot redirect
  31. output to a file, because the file will never be written to disk
  32. before the system hangs and has to be powered down.

  34. VGALIB works perfectly, BTW.  I have 4MB RAM with an 8MB swap file
  35. enabled -- I know that this will be slow, but it still should work.
  36. Can anyone offer me any suggestions?
