- I am having serious difficulties with lilo and need help. I am not
- experienced at all with this, and I really can not seem to figure out
- what is going on / wrong even though I have read all the documentation.
- I currently have BootManager, and OS/2, and Linux installed with
- everything working except to boot linux I must use a floppy. The linux
- I am using is the SLS version. (I downloaded SLS a, b, and c and
- installed.) I have been trying to use the lilo version that came with
- the SLS to get linux to boot from the hard drive under BootManager. It
- seems to run ok, but when I boot to it, I get "LILO loading......" and
- then it appears to start to boot normally. It reports on lpt1, etc,
- then I get a kernal panic saying it cannot handle swap request at such
- and such a place. After trying all kinds of things in vain, I removed
- the version of lilo I had installed, and went to tsx-11.mit.edu to get
- lilo.8.tar.Z. I did all the make s to get this version ready, and then
- tried to run it using
-
- /# /etc/lilo/lilo -b /dev/hda1 -i /etc/lilo/boot.b -v -v -v /Image
-
- and now it tells me:
-
- DEVICE 0X0301: MAXIMUM NUMBER OF CYLINDERS IS 1023, NOT 1024.
-
- I have no idea what this means. Although the documentation for lilo is
- very nice, I can not for the life of me figure out what the heck is
- going on. Can some kind soul take my hand and walk me through this?
- Thanks in advance.
