  12. I finally broke down and installed X, and got nearly everything
  13. working, except for one problem.  I am probably missing something
  14. stupid, but I'd appreciate help finding out what.  If this is
  15. non-linux specific and I should be posting this in the X group, I'd
  16. like to know that too, but it appears to me that this may have to do
  17. with a mis-configured linux...

  19. I modified my .twmrc and .xinitrc from the school computers, and when
  20. I do a startx, X comes up and twm comes up, and my menus work, but no
  21. clients will display.  My display is set correctly, /tmp/.X11-unix/X0
  22. is created, and *the processes are started*.  When I exit X, the
  23. processes are sitting there, stopped, and I have su up to kill all the
  24. ones like xterm that were suid root.

  26. However, *nothing but the mouse curser and menus ever display*.  The
  27. clients do not print out any error messages unless I intentionally
  28. start them with bad arguments (like -display :42), in which case, when
  29. I exit X, the correct error message is showing.

  31. If anyone would be willing to help me, I'd appreciate it.  I'd be more
  32. than happy to provide any more information that you need.
  33. Unfortunately, I my serial terminal has a few pins unconnected, so I
  34. can't use it for debugging.
