- Thanks for helpful hints on getting telnet to work. I am afraid I am some
- sort of guinea pig for those writing docs...
-
- The status now is that ftp <ip number> results in an error message
- 'network not reachable'. ftp loopback works alright but only (from root)
- to root, not to another user on my machine. Also in ftp loopback, the ls or
- dir command does not work but may-be that is normal.
-
- This is what I did:
-
- (1) grabbed the SLS package around Dec. 20. It contains version 0.99 of
- linux and 0.98.5 (or similar) for tcpip. Installed the a,b,t,x disks
- but omitted a few parts (uucp is one that I remember).
- (2) configured my WD card to irq=5 and io=280. It's still 16 bit and not
- 8 bit as the docs demand. Important? I would NOT go the extra 500 miles
- and install/use gcc to 'recompile' something.
- (3) installed the lib41 libraries from the c2 disk of SLS, just in case they
- really matter.
- (4) edited rc.local in order to get rid of sticky softland.com hosts.
- (5) ran install.net.
-
- On booting there are no error messages that I would recognize, except for
- complaints about missing NFS packages.
-
- Anyone can give me a clue what to try next? I am definitely not close to
- being a unix expert.
