- I was hoping someone can help me with this very frustrating
- problem. I've followed the FAQ(didn't unrstand what was going
- on, BUT) and still can't figure out why my loopback ain't working.
-
- For instance. When I'm the root user, I do a 'talk wonge',
- the screen clears, the usual talk divisor appears, but at the
- top of the screen, the following message appears:-
-
- [Error on write to talk daemon : Network is unreachable (101)]
-
- and then it throws me back to the prompt.
-
- However, as a non-root user, when I do a 'talk root', I get
- a different reply, it just gives me the following information:-
-
- Host name lookup failure
- talk: eagles: /home/wonge#
-
- Now, if the root and wonge has different replies, then I'd figure
- there must be some permissions screwed up along the way. But I
- can't find the permission problem, so I turn to the 'nslookup'
- and 'nsquery' commands(at this point, I'm willing to TRY anything!).
-
- For nslookup, I get:-
- # nslookup eagles
-
- SendRequest: sendto: Network is unreachable
- SendRequest: sendto: Network is unreachable
- SendRequest: sendto: Network is unreachable
- SendRequest: sendto: Network is unreachable
- *** Can't find server name for address 142.101.245.101: Timed out
- *** Default servers are not available
-
-
- For nsquery, I get:-
-
- # nsquery eagles
- Name: eagles
- Adresses: 142.101.245.101
- Aliases: eagles.van.bc.ca
-
-
- Unknown host
-
- Well, up to now, I figure out, I must be MISSING something.
- Default servers are not available? What does this all mean?
-
-
- Can someone please point me to the general correct direction?
-
- Much appreciated...
