  13. Any of you linux gurus with similar setup, 
  14. could you please help me with the Xconfig file.
  15. I am a novice at playing with PC hardware.
  16.  
  17. I have a Gateway 2000 486sx at 25MHz with CrystalScan 1024NI monitor.
  18. The system documentation says it has a built-in WD90C31 enhanced 32-bit
  19. super VGA display adapter. 
  20. The monitor is dual frequency (31.5, 48KHz horizontal and 50-90Hz vertical).
  21. The mouse is Microsoft with PS2 compatible mouse port.

  24. In my Xconfig the mouse line reads:
  25. Microsoft "/dev/bmouseps2"
  26.  
  27. When I startx, with clocks and chipset lines commented, 
  28. the clocks reported are 25 28 18 0 14 16 37 20.
  29. Among the configured drivers, it seems to automatically detect pvga1 with
  30. 1M mem and 8 Numclocks.

  32. I tried the monitor timings given in vga.dbase file without any success.
  33. I also tried using modegen2.sc to calculate timings for the given
  34. monitor frequencies (31.5KHz horizontal and 60Hz vertical), but they
  35. did not fix the problems either. 
  36. The best I have gotten is with the timings I computed using modegen2.sc:
  37. I get a blue screen with the wire-frame of xclock. As soon as I move the
  38. mouse, the clock appears at some random place and the pointer sticks to
  39. the top of the screen. The pointer becomes jerky and moves only at the
  40. top of the screen. I have to Ctrl-Alt-Backspace at this point. 
  41. I tried mono configuration too with no success.

  44. Now, if anyone out there has a similar configuration working, could you please
  45. email me your Xconfig files, or any other clue that may help.
