- BZZZZT!
-
- You can run the Diamond Speedstar cards. Some (not all) of the cards
- have variable dot clocks. If you have one with a variable dot clock
- you need to get the clock set before you run X. My current way of
- doing this is to boot windows (the driver sets the clocks for me) and
- then warm boot over to Linux. Now there are two other ways I know of
- to do it (within Linux).
-
- 1) choose a text mode that has the clock you want. Not the best way,
- but people tell me it can be done.
-
- 2) get a program capable of setting the dot clocks. I've got something
- someone e-mail to me that is supposed to be able to do this, but I
- haven't tested it.
-
- I have come across many people who use the Diamond Speedstars with
- variable clocks so I can attest to several success stories.
- True, the card isn't supported and I don't have a problem with that (I
- don't expect people working on XFree86 to deal with any of these
- headaches), but it is usable...
-
- UNSUPPORTED != UNUSABLE
