- Sorry, if this is faq, but i scanned through the latest faq/info-sheet/meta-faq i
- have and there was nothing about it (except a note that there are no existing
- programs to scan for badblocks).
-
- I used both mk(e)fs as well as efsck in their latest version!
- Those tools will not accept the 'block marked bad' status of my WD1006(RLL)
- controller. As a result of this the edefrag program crashed my root file system
- last weekend: it tried to write to one of those bad sectors ...
-
- I need either a documentation on the bad block list format for mk(e)fs or a
- working script/program that converts the bad block list of the manufacturer into
- the format accepted by those tools.
- There was an earlier posting on this subject (it included an awk script) but i
- lost the printout (GRRR!).
- I also tried to write a program myself but it didn't work ...
- If i get enough information, then i will try to write a harddisk scanner for
- linux and upload it to one of the ftp sites.
-
- Please mail the answers to me. I will summarize them and send it to the faq
- maintainers.
-
- Thanks in advance
