  13. Sorry, if this is faq, but i scanned through the latest faq/info-sheet/meta-faq i
  14. have and there was nothing about it (except a note that there are no existing
  15. programs to scan for badblocks).

  17. I used both mk(e)fs as well as efsck in their latest version!
  18. Those tools will not accept the 'block marked bad' status of my WD1006(RLL)
  19. controller. As a result of this the edefrag program crashed my root file system
  20. last weekend: it tried to write to one of those bad sectors ...

  22. I need either a documentation on the bad block list format for mk(e)fs or a
  23. working script/program that converts the bad block list of the manufacturer into
  24. the format accepted by those tools.
  25. There was an earlier posting on this subject (it included an awk script) but i
  26. lost the printout (GRRR!).
  27. I also tried to write a program myself but it didn't work ...
  28. If i get enough information, then i will try to write a harddisk scanner for
  29. linux and upload it to one of the ftp sites.
