  16. I am using Linux v0.98.p15-41 (SLS 0.98p5).  I have been trying to get the
  17. X Windows stuff to work without success.  Heres the hardware that I have
  18.  
  19.    1) 486DX running at 33Mhz
  20.    2) Tseng ET4000 SVGA card with 1MB memory.

  22. When I start X, the systen just hangs completely.  The keyboard is dead and
  23. I'm 100% certain that all processes are dead.  The screen is a combination
  24. of black (bottom) and white (top) with some dots here and there.

  26. I have used X, X386 and Xmono all without joy.

  29. I've tried a selection of modes in the Xconfig file using both the standard settings
  30. found in the Xconfig given in the distribution but have played mostly with my own.
  31. Both give the same results.  To calculate the settings for the modes, I've used 
  32. modegen1.sc and modegen2.sc without success.

  34. X can't even return the clock speeds when a mode in the modes line in the Xconfig
  35. file is defined.  To circumvent this problem, I put a single non existent mode on
  36. the modes line to force an error.  This indeed gave me the clocks.  I designed my
  37. modes using these clocks.  I have included the clocks line in some attempts and omitted
  38. then in others, all failing.
