- The printer daemon hpd is used by the printing program hpr to control
- printing on a Hewlett-Packard compatible LasetJet printer. I have
- noticed a few minor bugs. These were noted using an HP LaserJet 4
- printer.
-
- 1) The banner page produced by hpd is not quite the same as that made
- by the general printing program lpr. The top line of the MW logo,
- made from several adjacent octothorpes, is somehow shifted right by
- about six positions.
-
- 2) There is a little, undocumented item about hpd concerning final
- page eject. While lpd always generates a page eject for the last page
- of a print job, hpd does not always for a final page feed. The hpd
- program does appear to have a final page eject only if the hp filter
- program (analogous to pr) is performed.
-
- Ther may be a slight problem with the troff example given in the troff
- entry in the manual. The book says
-
- try:
-
- .sp !8i
- .ps 500
- .ce
- E
-
- with the idea of producing a big, fat letter "E" on the ouput. Well,
- I tried this and all I got was a blank page.
-
-
- I think it's time to have an /etc/printcap or similar for terminal
- linr controll.
