  11. Exporter BBS v.04 is now available. This version is posted to
  12. incoming at raven. The package is called exp4.zip.
  13.  
  14. It features:
  15. *GNU style license.
  16. *version included for Coherent 3.x  and 4.x in the same package.
  17. *Color support including termcap and/or terminfo for called programs, 
  18. *fast and easy menu driven interface,
  19. *context sensitive help system,
  20. *menus can be toggled off and on if user desires, with a single key stroke.
  21. *supports scripts of bbs commands,
  22. *prompts and messages in a single file for easy customization/translation.
  23. *up to 900 commands and 99 menus configurable by sysop, 
  24. *teleconferences with no formal limit to number of channels
  25. *sysop's system monitor,
  26. *user configuarable file transfer protocol, support
  27.     for external protocols: x-y-z modem and kermit.
  28. *user definable defaults for colors and file transfer protocols,
  29. *events calendar support,
  30. *includes database system with
  31.     full screen download queue management.
  32.     macro files allow automation of files library administration
  33.     uses .dbf style files.
  34.     restricted read only mode or full mode with locate,
  35.     edit, sort and so on. (in color, when used with the
  36.     bbs)
  37.     runs on both 286 and 386 with up to 10 concurrent databases
  38.     on 286 and 30 concurrent databases on 386 with DDK kernel.
  39. *download queue system allows the user to select files from a full
  40.     screen display that includes comments, file size and
  41.     other information with a single key stroke. It also
  42.     grabs entire "groups" of files in a couple of keystrokes.
  43. *supports sysop definable "questionaires",
  44. *menu/command manager for both 286 and 386 enviornments,
  45. *runs any program with sysop's predefined arguments,
  46. *29 builtin commands available to use on menus,
  47. *restricted call time length available at any time interval desired by sysop,
  48. *each user (or group of users) can have a totally different 
  49.     command/menu set,
  50. *60 new on-line man sets,
  51. *includes getty wedge to log modem activty, pperm to remove old 
  52.     locks and keep the serial port permissions correct, rmhd to remove
  53.     lines from the begining of log files.
  54. *16 additional programs to administer or assist the BBS,
  55. *Install *and* Unintsall scripts. Since there is no warranty with
  56.     a gnu license, you can easily remove it if you don't
  57.     like it (or if you want to upgrade it ).
  58. *developer's tools including  database of all function definitions
  59.     and all function calls by filename and line number. You
  60.     can tweak it to your heart's desire.
  61. *developed on COHERENT machines for COHERENT machines. 
  62. *Installs in about 10 minutes (on a 386dx 25mhz, including all compile
  63.     time and nroff'ing man pages.)

  66. Known limitations:
  67. *uses external file transfer protocols only. You'll need
  68.     the zmodem package. Uses COHERENT's kermit.
  69. *Each menu/command set is a fixed length database 275kb in length,
  70.     so you will find a toll exacted on your disk drive if you
  71.     add many different sets. I use 2. One is a 'guest' set and
  72.     the other is a regular set. Of course, sets can be shared
  73.     among any number of users, and a special file lists which
  74.     user gets which set. You'll need about 1.5 mb of disk space
  75.     to compile and run this minimal set.
  76. *The database system lacks relational abilities and an interpreter.
  77.     It is a simple menu driven .dbf system.
  78. *news and mail are external. The BBS checks the user's mail box
  79.     after every command, in the manner that any other 'shell'
  80.     would and reports new mail. However, most news and mail
  81.     programs offer security holes for certain systems.
  82. *the bbs itself supports ansi, dos-ansi, vt100 and tty only. However,
  83.     the sysop can add terminals.

  85. This isn't the end of development. It is just that the development
  86. has reached the point where the software can be used by almost anyone
  87. who can run COHERENT whether they can 'hack' or not.

  90. my bbs by uucp or interactively. For uucp It is: 
  91. /usr/spool/uucppublic/coherent/exp4.zip

  93. Interactively, you'll find the file by running command '211'.

  96. will post a copy to mwcbbs. I will not e-mail it. It is too big.
