- The reason Coherent is missing a bunch of stuff is pretty simple, IMHO.
- Pre 4.0 versions used 286 code. You need a 386 to do paged virtual
- memory and to have a flat address space so you can reference a large amount
- of memory. All of which is needed for X on an Intel architecture.
-
- So I look at 4.0 like MS-Windows 3.0. It's the first one that actually
- does anything useful. Kind of like a commercialized beta test. When
- 4.1 comes out (like MS-Windows 3.1) that will be the production
- quality version.
-
- Someone before called it "banana software -- ripens at the installation
- site". I have to agree, but that doesn't bother me. I could either
- have gotten this one and been able to start doing semi-normal Unix
- things, or still be using a 286 version waiting for a full production
- version with paging and crap to come out. Now if you really want to
- see banana software, try SunOS. That has had more patches in the last
- few years than I care to remember. Face it, OS's are banana software.
- They're harder to debug than apps.

- : used) many of the Curses functions listed did't work! (yes I use
- : curses))
-
- Curses is just a library. You could rewrite it yourself, or get a
- copy of some source and re-port it. Or maybe just implement the
- missing functions and add them to the library.
