  29. I just got bit by the same thing -- I figured that the LOGIN lines
  30. that "w" was showing me were garbage (I still think so, but they seem
  31. to be intentional garbage...) so I emptied the file, rebooted, and got
  32. the "must start from lowest level "sh"" message.
  33.     The fix: boot from H Lu's rootdisk, mount my linux partition
  34. under /mnt, and then cp /etc/utmp /mnt/etc/utmp, then reboot and we're
  35. back in business.
