  29. TOOLS  is  the  major  international  conference   devoted   to   the
  30. applications  of  object-oriented technology.  TOOLS 11 will continue
  31. the commitment to excellence  generated  by  earlier  conferences  in
  32. Europe,  the Pacific and the US.  TOOLS is back for the third time in
  33. Santa Barbara to continue the tradition of a high-level symposium  in
  34. one of the most beautiful places in the world.

  36. TOOLS will  continue  to  apply  the  standards  defined  by  earlier
  37. conferences in the series:

  39.      + Strong emphasis on the practice of object-oriented  technology
  40.        and  its application in industrial environments, complementing
  41.        the  more  academically-oriented  perspective  of  traditional
  42.        conferences.

  44.      + Solid technical program, based on a strict refereeing process.

  46.      + Balanced coverage of the  wealth  of  approaches,  trends  and
  47.        variants in the object-oriented community.
  48.  
  49.      + Combination of tutorials  by  recognized  experts,  up-to-date
  50.        exhibitions   of  products  and  services,  invited  talks  by
  51.        innovators in  the  field,  relevant  panel  discussions,  and
  52.        technical papers targeted to industry practitioners.

  54. As with previous  conferences,  the  TOOLS  11  Proceedings  will  be
  55. published by Prentice-Hall and made available worldwide.

  57. SUBMITTING A PAPER
  58.  
  59. TOOLS USA '93 is now soliciting papers  on  all  aspects  of  object-
  60. oriented technology. All submitted papers will be refereed and judged
  61. not only according to standards of  technical  quality  but  also  on
  62. their  usefulness  to  practitioners  and applied researchers. A non-
  63. exhaustive list of suggested topics includes:
  64.  
  65.      + Migration toward O-O Programming
  66.  
  67.      + O-O user interfaces
  68.  
  69.      + Management and training issues.
  70.  
  71.      + Reports of experiences with O-O technology.
  72.  
  73.      + Empirical and field studies.
  74.  
  75.      + Issues in the productions, distribution  and  applications  of
  76.        reusable components of industrial quality.
  77.  
  78. TOOLS 11 will feature a special  track  on  issues  relating  to  the
  79. migration  from  conventional  to  object-oriented  programming. This
  80. track will include workshop(s),  tutorials,  panel  discussions,  and
  81. featured  speakers.  Technical  papers  are  expressly sought in this
  82. area.

  107. All submissions must be received by March 20, 1993 to  be  considered
  108. for  inclusion  in  the conference. Submissions should be in English.
  109. Notification of acceptance will be mailed by April  30,  1993.  Final
  110. manuscripts will be due June 1, 1993.

  112. THE INTERNATIONAL OBJECT-ORIENTED WEEK

  114. Friday, August 6 has  been  set  aside  for  independently  organized
  115. events,  such  as  User Group meetings or standardization committees.
  116. The TOOLS USA '93 organizers will help coordinate such events if they
  117. fall within the scope of object-oriented techniques, and will include
  118. the announcements in the final TOOLS program.  If you are  interested
