  13. I include our announcement for the new version of Tricklet.
  14. It includes our new Perl<->SNMP interface. I thought some
  15. of you might be interested.

  22. The btng package is the result of the latest work done by
  23. the DNPAP group of the Delft University of Technology.
  24.  
  25. The btng package includes beholder.exe, an RMON compliant 
  26. ethernet monitor for the OS/2 operating system environment.
  27. It also includes the Tricklet package for OS/2 and UNIX. Tricklet is
  28. a set of SNMP utilities, including a full featured Perl interface.

  30. The OS/2 executables and documentation of btng and Tricklet 
  31. version 2 can be found in:

  52.     - optional TCP/IP 1.2 from IBM for OS/2 (only used by Tricklet)

  56. On a UNIX platform you will need an ANSI C compiler and a TCP/IP
  57. stack with socket interface.

  61. To compile the OS/2 software, you will need:

  63.     - microsoft C compiler 6.0 (last one with OS/2 support, thanx microsoft)
  64.     - IBM's OS2 toolkit for OS/2 1.3
  65.     - IBM's TCP/IP 1.2 kit

  72.     - we don't ask for much, just acknowledgement of our work,

  90. Now the bad news:
  91.  
  92.     - btng2 is the first (beta-like) version that hits the
  93.       public streets. There will be problems/bugs.
  94.     - it is a very advanced piece of software, and you
  95.       can do a lot of things wrong.
  96.     - there is documentation, but no introduction
  97.       for the use of SNMP and RMON monitors.
  98.       
  99. We wrote this software to experiment with network managament, SNMP,
  100. and RMON. Although the software conforms to all these standards,
  101. it is should not be confused with commercial products. We don't give 
  102. support, and don't ask for money and licence fees.
  103.  
  104. So use it to experiment with network management, in non-critical 
  105. network environments.
