- RH> About 8 months ago, I asked JPI what their plans were for a true 32-bit

- RH> to full 32-bit. There is currently rumoured [subjective
- RH> issue] to be a "shortage" of 32-bit applications for OS/2,
- RH> with the bulk of available OS/2 native applications being
- RH> 16-bit code generated to run under version 1.3 or earlier.
- RH> I was told at the time [guesswork involved in
- RH> forecasting on their part] that "around September 1992"
- RH> there MIGHT be a 32-bit upgrade, and that to make one
- RH> double-upgrade [to 32-bit AND to OS/2] might be slightly
- RH> cheaper than to make two single-upgrades.
- RH> It isn't as though there were any other 32-bit OS/2
- RH> compilers for Modula-2 up and running out there, or am I
- RH> mistaken? JPI at least announced that they were working on
- RH> one!

- We demonstrated out 32-bit Modula-2 & C++ compilers at Comdex last year.
- As all our compilers are written in Modula-2 and we have fully bootstrapped
- our 32-bit compilers this will give you some indication to the stability of
- these programs. The compilers themselves were converted relatively rapidly,
- most of the work will go into developing the run-time libraries and other
- tools which must be largely re-written. We are hoping to begin b-testing
- shortly but cannot give specific dates as yet.
-
- Currently the compilers run under OS/2 2.0 though we are looking at NT
- and DOS Extended platforms.
-
- This is totally new technology and it is not possible to say at this stage
- what sort of concessions might be available for existing TopSpeed users.
-
- Best regards
