  15. For some computer graphics course, we use a room full of PS/2s with
  16. 8514/a graphics adapters and Turbo Pascal 5.5 . My supervisor wrote
  17. a neat interface to the Graph unit, that can be used in 8514 mode
  18. and VGA mode. We prefer the 8514 version (since it has some additional
  19. features, like being able to use 256 colours), but that has one
  20. major drawback:

  22. When an error occurs while in 8514 mode, the PS/2 does not switch back
  23. to the (VGA) text screen, as it does in VGA mode.
  24. The same problem occurs when 'Step'ping (F8) through a program: in VGA
  25. mode, the Turbo programming environment is visible after each step. But
  26. in 8514 mode, the graphics screen remains visible.

  28. So, somehow, the control remains with the 8514 instead of switching back
  29. to VGA when it is supposed to. The rest is okay; the keyboard is not
  30. dead (program execution can be resumed normally by typing blind) and
  31. after the program has ended (in a regular way), the text screen DOES
  32. reappear.

  34. Can this problem be solved? Or do we just have to live with it (or not
  35. use the 8514 mode)?

  40. P.S. I know I have not been very specific about HOW the 8514 is being
  41. programmed, but that's because I do not have access to the source code
  42. (at least, not at the moment). But if you need more info, I can get hold
  43. of it.
