  18.   We started out with an ancient 8.something release, got a maintenance
  19. contract and started replacing things.  (:  We're routing three things... IP,
  20. AppleTalk and Novell IPX.

  22.   IP was semi-exciting, spurred on by network configurations changing under-
  23. neath me.  I was very familiar with it, however, so it went (as far as the
  24. router software was concerned) without a hitch.

  26.   AppleTalk was exciting.  If the idea of a protocol behaving like a rabid,
  27. diseased sex-crased bunny rabbit appeals to you, AppleTalk is for you.

  29.   IPX was the worst so far because Novell was such an unknown.  Cisco provided
  30. more useful information about Novell than all their manuals and engineers
  31. could.  Quite disgusting.  One bug is making us upgrade from 9.1(1.5) to
  32. 9.1(2.1), which is the worst I've been dished.

  35.   So far I've been really happy with the 9.1+ ROMs.  Being a University,
  36. we're running everything from the ancient to the start of the art, new and
  37. old, all at the same time.  I've been _very_ pleased with Cisco's tech
  38. support.  Especially:

  44.   These people have taken a lot of abuse from me and they've paid off.  If
  45. you have a maintenance contract, go for it.  If not, I'd get one set of 9.1+
  46. proms and one of the newer boot proms so you can load 9.1+ images via TFTP.
