- Hello,
- I'm having trouble configuring a SUN IPC running 4.1.2 to use a Supra
- V.32bis FAX modem. If I "hang" the getty off the line manually I can
- dial this modem and login (sometimes). If I let init, via ttytab, launch
- the getty I see a flury of activity on the send/receive lines and the
- modem appears to be to busy to answer the phone. Supra's BBS has no
- info on how to configure their modems with a SUN.
-
- I'm using one of the SUN standard DIN8 to DB25 modem cables to connect it.
- I've tried numerous combinations of eeprom settings for cts/rts/dtr/cd.
- ttysoftcar does things I don't understand. The folks at SUN's technical
- support recommend "standard" settings on the UNIX side of the port and let
- the modem do all the negotiation.
-
- I've looked at the pages from Evi Nemeth<sp>'s book and from the managing
- terminals and configurations from some Solaris book. A postscript paper
- by Hal L. Stern has proven useful, but I still can't seem to get this
- modem to work.
-
- My questions:
- 1) Does anyone have any configuration hints?
- 2) Does anyone have the register settings they're using for this modem?
- 3) Any special hardware handshake needs that I should be aware of?
- 4) Does getty override any settings from the eeprom?
- 5) Is the ms=crtscts required for this modem in gettytab?
- 6) I'm considering blowing this modem off and using a QBlazer,
- good, bad or indifferent idea?
-
- Thanks in advance,
