- Subject: Scout Plus Identity Crisis
-
- I have a strange problem with an internal Digicom Scout Plus v.32bis
- fax/modem, and wonder if anybody can help.
-
- When I first installed the modem, its AT*O command reported that it was
- a "Scout Plus" and that the "connect mode" was *N6 (v.32bis+v.42bis
- auto). I also installed the Winfax software that came with it and sent
- and received several faxes, as well as connecting to another Scout Plus
- and transferring zipped files at 1500 (or something) cps. So far so
- good.
-
- Later, while attempting to make a very old version of PC Anywhere work
- with the modem, I switched it to v.32 only mode (AT*N3). When that
- didn't help either, I remember doing AT*N6 to set it back to v.32bis.
- Several days later, when attempts to send a fax repeatedly failed, I
- again looked at the configuration (AT*O) to learn that the modem now
- thought that it was a "Scout PC" (v.32, no fax)!! connect was set at
- *N3, and all attempts to set it back to *N6 failed (I even did AT&F to
- restore the factory configuration). The fax no longer works and the
- modem will not connect over 9600bps (although this works just fine). It
- never gives any failure messages, just refuses to switch to *N6 or
- recognize fax commands.
-
- (Note that it is probably coincidental that the problem appeared after
- I switched to *N3 and back, but...)
-
- Has anybody else ever experienced this problem? If so, how did you fix
- it?
-
- Failing a solution, could somebody please send me the fax number for
- Digicom? Their manual only lists a voice number (408-262-1277), and I
- don't want to call that from here (Ankara, Turkey), as it would cost
- several dollars per minute, and I know from experience what its like
- to wait on hold for 20 minutes at $3 per.
-
- Please email replies if possible - I look at my mail more often than
- this newsgroup.
-
- Thanks.
