- The constellations and encoding at 12000 and 14400 are identical.
- V.17 adds some things, though, including (a) 7200 and 9600
- trellis-coded operation (V.33 is only 12000 and 14400), (b) a
- fast-turnaround mode which is used for page transmission after the
- intial TCF training [shaves a second and a half off each page over
- V.33], and (c) "sacrificial" tones and echo protection tones to
- handle the vagaries of network echo control equipment (which V.33
- doesn't have because it was written for use only on leased and
- private circuits).
