- I occaisionally get a duplicated character in the host output. This can
- be seen when outputting a uuencode file as one line longer than any other.
- It happens sometimes as much as once every 200 lines, though more often about
- every 1000 lines. In output I know very well exactly how it should appear,
- I have seen the duplicated character. It varies in position within the
- line and does not appear to be context sensitive (i.e. it has happened to
- a wide range of character values).
-
- The puzzling part is that it has happened via several mainframes connected
- via a terminal server, and on a BBS system as well. I really believe it
- is not the host system doing it. So I blamed the machine it was connected
- and the modem (one of... didn't know which).
-
- Then I got a new machine. The old machine is an Amiga 500 and the new machine
- is a Gateway 2000. So then I just blamed the modem (since both the machine as
- well as the terminal program have changed).
-
- Well now I just got a new modem and I am STILL seeing this occur. About
- the ONLY thing that has not changed is the phone line itself (and the new
- modem is V.42/V.42bis and is operating in that mode so I cannot believe
- the phone line path could possible do this). The only other common factor
- I can think of is that I am doing VT100 emulation in all cases.
-
- The one thing that does seem to affect it is the quantity of data. If
- I am outputting only a little at a time, I never see it happen. I only
- see it when I am output lots of data all at once, such as dumping a
- uuencoded file to the screen, or outputting all the powers of 2 in decimal
- right justified or something similarly strange.
-
- Also, Zmodem downloads are running into errors UNLESS I use "-l 1024" on
- the "sz" command line (in UNIX). The "-l 1024" option slows things down
- too much, but the errors, even though fully recovered for the file Zmodem
- is sending, cause Zmodem to abandon multiple files. No errors are happening
- when I use "-l 1024".
-
- I've changed out just about everything, and this thing is very puzzling.
- I'm now using the Gateway Telepath modem with TELIX (and preparing to try
- PIBTERM, PROCOMM, and QTERM to see if it happens with them).
-
- Any ideas?
