  24. The trouble is that most users won't need this information.  Shipping it with
  25. every modem is a waste of money and trees.

  27. I think the best solution is the way HP handles the PCL manuals for their 
  28. laser printers.  When you buy a LaserJet you get a postage-paid reply card
  29. (it's a tear-out from the user's manual, so it's hard to lose it) which you 
  30. send in if you want the PCL manual.

  32. Note that this is a good solution only if it's implemented well.  HP's 
  33. implementation worked well in my case -- the PCL manual was here within a week
  34. of my mailing the card.

  36. fwiw, I've bought fax modems for PCs, and they didn't come with FAX programming
  37. instructions either.
