- The trouble is that most users won't need this information. Shipping it with
- every modem is a waste of money and trees.

- I think the best solution is the way HP handles the PCL manuals for their
- laser printers. When you buy a LaserJet you get a postage-paid reply card
- (it's a tear-out from the user's manual, so it's hard to lose it) which you
- send in if you want the PCL manual.

- Note that this is a good solution only if it's implemented well. HP's
- implementation worked well in my case -- the PCL manual was here within a week
- of my mailing the card.

- fwiw, I've bought fax modems for PCs, and they didn't come with FAX programming
- instructions either.
