  15. We have been developing a Windows -application with Borland C++ using the
  16. db_VISTA multi-user version 3.20 as the database application. The problem
  17. is speed.

  19. Even if executing the application in one machine with the network running
  20. (no other machines are connected), the opening of the databases is
  21. extremely slow. As soon as the databases are opened, the speed is quite
  22. good though, even when the amount of data transferred is quite much.

  24. We have tried to alter the configuration of the network and the vista
  25. cache etc., but nothing so far has helped. The machines are 386 / 4-8
  26. Megabytes, DOS 4.0 and 5.0 and Windows is 3.0. Network used is LanTastic
  27. 4. The target architecture of the application is 2-6 node network with no
  28. separate server. One of the machines contains the database files, and the
  29. application is supposed to work on this machine too.

  31. Does anyone have any ideas to improve performance (any other than a
  32. dedicated server or opening all the databases when starting the 
  33. application and keeping them opened until application ends)?
