- beware of a documentation bug... actually more of a documentation
- inadequacy.
-
- The following discussion pertains to VMS installations...
-
- Ingres makes use of a logical called II_TIMEZONE to establish GMT from
- system time (since VMS doesn't understand GMT). This logical needs to be
- set to the number of hours the system location is west of GMT. this much
- is clear in the documentation. The documentation also states that
- II_TIMEZONE should change when daylight savings time begins/ends. Now
- here is the inadequacy: If II_TIMEZONE is simply changed by an
- interactive command such as:
-
- $ define/sys/exec ii_timezone 8
-
- Ingres will return THE WRONG TIME. When the timezone is changed, the
- Ingres installation MUST be restarted. In other words, the correct
- method for changing the timezone should be:
-
- 1. edit iistartup1.com and change the line where II_TIMEZONE is set.
- 2. Shutdown Ingres
- 3. Start Ingres
-
-
- (don't ask how I discovered this at this time of year...)
