-
- I'll take a stab at this. Xbase are programs that stem from, and
- are remotely compatible with, Dbase. Usually Dbase 3+ is considered the
- standard programming script language for compatibility purposes. While
- virtually all Xbase software (the most notable being Dbase IV, FoxPro, and
- Clipper) have added extentions to the language, they will still be able
- to run the original Dbase 3+ code without significant alternation. I
- understand Paradox has a scripting language that evolved from Dbase, but
- am unsure on just how far its come (or how little, for that matter).
-
- Thus, being a FoxPro programmer, I can often help Clipper or
- Dbase IV people in their programming problems, and visa-versa, because
- the languages stem from a common origin and are remotely compatible.
- As a side criterion, all of these programs will use the standard .DBF
- database file type from Dbase 3+, or at least import and convert as
- needed and very reliably.
