  12. A couple of people suggested that memory was the problem.  It was.  I cut my  
  13. RAM disk down to 512K and made myself an 8Mb permanent swap file (someone  
  14. subsequently suggested that I turn virtual memory off, but virtual memory was  
  15. already off when I had the problem).  Now things are running at a good clip.   
  16. So I didn't have to take any of the other measures.  (BTW, I am using Norton  
  17. Desktop.)  Thanks for the advice.
