- I noticed that a DOS shell program I use (Qfiler 3.2a) uses PKZIP to view .
- ZIP files. The program uses the -v option of PKZIP.EXE to get the filename
- information into the window that shows the .ZIP file contents.
-
- PKWARE added a fourth field to the ATTR record of their -v "view". This
- causes the first character of the file name to be in column 63 instead of
- column 62, as it previously has been. For this reason, Qfiler thinks all
- files in a zip file have a blank for the first character of the files.
- Subsequently, you can not take any action on these files (list, delete or
- extract them) from within Qfiler. I guess the writer of Qfiler will come
- out with a fix, but I doubt this is the only shell that uses the "Name"
- field of the -v option of PKZIP. Oh well, that's the price of progress.
