- Forwarded from OtherNets Echo on FidoNet via cs.utexas.edu. This
- temporary mailing list soon to be echo on FidoNet could use some help
- from sysops and superusers.

- Hi Adam:

- AM> I'm hoping to start a new INTERNET echo soon. It will be an echo for
- AM> novices interested in learning about the Internet. Until the INTERNET
- AM> echo is started, the Internet will be on-topic in OTHERNETS because,
- AM> as I said, it is an Othernet.
-
- I would like to volunteer a temporary arrangement for exchange of
- messages for those interested in learning about the Internet. I set up
- a mailing list on Colorado Super Net. (A mailing list is a Internet
- phenomenon which, as you probably know, functions a bit like an echo
- except that postings are by email to the host system and distribution of
- messages posted also by email.)
-
- Anyone interested can join by sending a netmail message to their Ufgate
- or Fredgate node which has access to the Internet. The body of the
- netmail message would read as follows:
-
- TO: majordomo@csn.org
-
- SUBSCRIBE INETFIDO firstname lastname
-
- You might put (this line is not part of the message) two lines between
- the first and last lines of the message. Majordomo is the list sever at
- CSN, which is a robot that works a bit like Areafix. It receives and
- remails the messages received to everybody who subscribes. The first
- message sent to each individual who signs up explains how to
- unsubscribe.
-
- When the new echo is up and running everybody can move to the new echo.
- In the meantime the aggravation of those with a narrow view of what
- Othernets is about will be minimized.
-
- Among other things, by subscribing, Internet new comers can learn about
- how mailing lists work.
-
- AM> Hopefully soon to be INTERNET moderator =)
-
- Seconding the motion,
-
- John
