  15. Dear Fellow Computer Users,
  16.  
  17. I feel it advisable to inform the gentle garbo.uwasa.fi users of the
  18. following matter concerning privacy / publicity.  I get very much
  19. email concerning garbo.uwasa.fi files and problems and UseNet news. 
  20. As an FTP archive site moderator I have to answer countless
  21. questions and views from the users practically every day.  Quite
  22. often these questions or views are of general interest or
  23. applicability, and I often make selected questions and my answers
  24. public in the /pc/pd2/post*.txt information files, and sometimes
  25. even on the UseNet news.  The same goes for useful user feedback on
  26. the programs on garbo.  Furthermore I may have to converse about
  27. some users' questions with my fellow moderators at garbo.uwasa.fi
  28. and other FTP sites.

  30. This means that unless prominently and unambiguously stated
  31. otherwise by the sender (at the very beginning of the message,
  32. please), or very obvious from the context or the contents, I
  33. consider all email, all text in the upload announcements, and all
  34. file uploads publicly available and publicly publishable material. 
  35. I simply cannot and will not take the time to ask for the sender's
  36. confirmation.  I hope you understand, and if you find this
  37. unacceptable, then there is unfortunately no other possibility than
  38. not to send email to me.

  40. Please particularly note that if you have kindly uploaded programs
  41. to garbo.uwasa.fi, you should never put anything confidential in
  42. your upload announcements to the garbo moderators.  If you have
  43. something confidential to say about your upload, please use separate
  44. email for that, and mark very, very clearly that you message is not
  45. for public distribution.

  47. The reason for these practices is that we get so much email,
  48. uploads, announcements, questions and views, that if we conversed
  49. back and forth with each and everyone about their material and
  50. messages, we would be totally swamped because we already are
  51. stretched as we are.  I have to organize matters in a rational way
  52. to be able to perform the moderator's functions, and making public
  53. the interesting questions from users and the answers to their
  54. queries is part of this.
